Ryan Mallett Early Life and Career ➡️
Ryan Mallett was born on June 5, 1988, in Batesville, Arkansas. He grew up in Texarkana, Texas, where he attended Texas High School. Mallett quickly established himself as a standout football player, earning recognition as one of the top high school quarterbacks in the nation.
During his high school career, Mallett set several passing records and led his team to success. He was named the Texas High School Player of the Year in 2006 and was selected to play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.
After graduating from high school, Mallett enrolled at the University of Michigan. In his freshman year, he served as a backup to Chad Henne but showed promise during his limited playing time. Mallett’s sophomore season at Michigan was cut short due to a suspension for an off-field incident.
Following his suspension, Mallett decided to transfer to the University of Arkansas. After sitting out the 2008 season per NCAA transfer rules, he became the starting quarterback for the Razorbacks in 2009. Mallett quickly made an impact, setting several school records and leading the team to a bowl victory. He continued his success in his junior season, earning All-SEC honors and guiding the Razorbacks to a top-10 ranking.
With his college career drawing to a close, Mallett made the decision to forego his senior year and enter the 2011 NFL Draft. He was highly regarded for his arm strength and size, but concerns about his character and off-field issues caused him to slip to the third round, where he was selected by the New England Patriots.
During his time with the Patriots, Mallett served as a backup to Tom Brady. He played sparingly in regular-season games, but the coaching staff praised his development and potential. In 2014, Mallett was traded to the Houston Texans, where he had the opportunity to compete for a starting role. However, he struggled with consistency and injuries, preventing him from securing a long-term starting position in the NFL.
After leaving the Texans, Mallett had brief stints with the Baltimore Ravens and the Detroit Lions before ultimately exiting the league. Since then, he has not pursued a professional football career.
